Sharad Patel lectures nationally and internationally on cosmetic dentistry, implantology and all ceramic restorative systems. He has been practising implant dentistry for more than ten years, during which he has placed more than 2,000 implants. Dr Patel has enormous enthusiasm for his profession and is driven continually to extend the boundaries of his knowledge. He is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantology and a certified Instructor for the International Society of Computerised Dentistry. He also enjoys membership of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Association of Dental Implantology UK. Sharad offers an additional mentoring programme to teach referring dentists to restore the implants placed by him if they so wish.

Current Concepts in Soft Tissue Grafting for Accelerated Implant Reconstruction Friday, 21 September 2012 to Saturday, 22 September 2012 | Two days

This course is designed to provide clinicians who are experienced in implant dentistry with a thorough understanding of advanced bone augmentation techniques. The programme combines in-depth lectures, a hands-on workshop, and live surgical demonstration. Participants experience and practise different surgical techniques on animal mandibles.

Educational outcome

Upon completion of the course delegates should be able to understand the protocols for immediate versus delayed implant placement in the aesthetic zone, and predictable evidence-based extraction site management. Following attendance participants should also be able to:

Successfully carry out surgical protocols for performing the following procedures: gingival grafts, subepithelial connective tissue grafts, vestibuloplasty and pedicle flaps
Perform first and second stage implant soft tissue procedures to optimise aesthetics and long-term maintenance
Prevent, recognise and treat complications related to soft tissue grafting

Detailed Programme

The programme includes harvesting, grafting and suturing, and aesthetic zone reconstruction. The course also covers the anatomy and biology of specific soft tissue grafts.
