Specialist in Periodontology

Adrian Binney is a part-time clinical lecturer at the Cardiff University School of Dentistry. He teaches on the Masters Degree course in Dental Implantology, and the Postgraduate Dental Implant Stepwise Course and Masters Degree Programme. He has also lectured on restorative dentistry at Bristol Dental School.
Adrian has completed dental implantology training in the UK, Europe and the USA. He undertakes a wide range of implant and bone regeneration work. His clinical practice, at The Parade Specialist Dental Centre in Cardiff, offers all aspects of restorative and aesthetic dentistry, and advanced periodontics.

Nick qualified from UWCM in 1986 and has been placing implants since 1994.
He is a GDC accredited specialist in Periodontology having completed his Masters degree in 1995 and his PhD in 2000. Also a Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Bristol, Nick is involved with the teaching of Periodontology and Implantology at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Nick is a mentor for dentists placing implants and is also a member of the Association of Dental Implantology
Professor David Thomas

Specialist in Oral Surgery

David Thomas is Professor of Oral Surgery and Programme Director of Implantology at Cardiff University, where he established the Implantology & Tissue Engineering MSc programmes. His main clinical interest is in implantology, specifically the use of soft and hard tissue grafting in the management of complex cases.
David is the elected President of the Association of British Academic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Regional Faculty Advisor and SAC member in Oral Surgery and a visiting Professor in Trondheim Norway. His research group works in the development of novel nano-medicines to treat chronic infection and inflammation.
Professor Thomas took his PhD at Bristol University, where he was the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellow.
Soft Tissue Management and Dental Implants Thursday, 1 October 2015 to Friday, 2 October 2015 | Two days
This programme is aimed at practitioners who have experience of simple implant placement and who wish to further their knowledge of soft tissue management.
Course Summary
This two-day course provides an insight into all aspects of soft tissue management, including suturing techniques, flap design and connective tissue grafts.
Educational outcome
On completion of this course, delegates will have an understanding of aesthetic flap design for implant procedures. They will be able to raise split thickness flaps and undertake palatal roll and connective tissue grafting techniques. Delegates will understand the principles of peri-implant aesthetics and pontic site development.

WIMAT (The Welsh Institute for Minimal Access Therapy) was opened in 1994 in Cardiff Medicentre, on the shared site of the University Hospital of Wales and the University of Wales College of Medicine. WIMAT is now under the auspices of Cardiff University and runs multi-disciplinary training courses across a range of surgical and medical specialties.
