An Implant Course with a Difference Friday, 21 September 2012 to Saturday, 11 May 2013 | Eighteen days over nine months
The Simply Excellence course is a comprehensive introduction, in accordance with GDC guidelines, for general dental practitioners of all levels who wish to incorporate implant dentistry into their practices. First presented in 2003, the year-long programme enables participants to gain contemporary knowledge and practical hands-on experience.
Course Summary
The Simply Excellence course is one of the most hands-on implant courses available in the UK. It covers every aspect of modern implant dentistry and related restorative and surgical topics. The programme includes the delegates’ treatment of their own patients*, from initial planning to final prosthetics.
Educational outcome
Upon completion of the course, delegates are able to confidently assess, diagnose and treat patients requiring implants, within the scope of general restorative and surgical dentistry.
The course qualifies for CPD for approximately 40 hours of lectures and approximately 80 hours of practical hands-on, observation and discussion of live cases.
Detailed Programme
Topics include:
- Diagnosis and treatment planning
- Practical implant placement in practice in plastic mandibles
- Observation of live surgery
- Surgical anatomy and armamentarium
- Flap design and suturing
- Undertaking of basic surgery under one-to-one supervision with experience in particulate and soft tissue grafting
- Prosthetic design, concepts and components
- Laboratory aspects and technical communication and protocols
- Provisionalisation and tissue training
- Jaw relations and occlusal control
- Advanced surgery
- Causes of, and dealing with, failures
- Observation of live sinus or block graft procedure
In addition to the principal course presenters, guest speakers teach topics covering their own areas of expertise.
NB Content may vary with course progress. All Saturdays from March include patient surgical and prosthetic treatment.
Additional information
The course takes place over eighteen days, commencing 21/22 September 2012, continuing 19/20 October, 9/10 November, 7/8 December 2012, 11/12 January, 1/2 February, 1/2 March, 5/6 April and 10/11 May 2013. Each two-day module consists of a day of lectures (Friday) and a day of practicals and/or live surgery (Saturday).
* Delegates will derive maximum benefit from this programme if they have one or two patients that they can bring for treatment during the course. Suitable cases involve missing single teeth or small spans which can be treated with one to three implants. They need good clinical access and sufficient bone volume to not necessitate advanced grafting procedures prior to placement.
“The course gave a comprehensive grounding in implant treatment, with the theoretical teaching and hands-on practical experience complementing each other well.
The opportunity to learn both from treating my own patients and observing other delegates treating theirs was most useful, as each case is different. My nurses have also benefited from the opportunity to attend some of the course to observe the procedures.
Koray and Sanjay are excellent clinical teachers who have a relaxed and friendly style. Koray has an encyclopaedic knowledge and Sanjay provides another perspective. The teaching facilities are superb and Sanjay’s team provides outstanding support.
Having attended the course, I can now keep implant treatment in house. This has stimulated and refreshed my career. My patients now have the convenience of having implant treatment in their own dental practice with a practitioner they know.
If you want to get into implants, this is the course to go on.”
