Dr. Harish Gupta

Harish Gupta qualified from Leeds Dental School in 1982. He then worked in the Oral & Maxillofacial and Orthodontics Units at Burton District Hospital for 1 year before starting a career in a General Dental Practice. Dr Gupta has worked at Six Ways Dental Surgery since 1984 and as a partner since 1985.

Dr Gupta continues to attend Postgraduate courses to update and further his knowledge, which enable him to provide increasing “Choices in Dental Care” for his patients. These include:

• TMJ dysfunction

• Root Canal Treatments

• Cosmetic Dentistry

• Implants

Dr Gupta has a special interest in Implants and Occlusion. He has achieved Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in both London and Edinburgh, and is a fellow of the Royal College, London. He has more recently gained a Master’s Degree in Implant Dentistry from Warwick University.

Dr Gupta is Responsible for the teaching of Dental Implants to other Dentists and their teams and is the originator of the MSc programme for Dental Implants, at the University of Warwick Medical School.

Dr Gupta is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England for the MFGDP(UK). He is an honorary associate Clinical Professor at Warwick University, and a mentor to other dentists who are working towards the FFGDP(UK) award.

This is for dental surgeons considering or intending to introduce dental implants as a treatment modality to their practices. It follows the General Dental Council’s training standards in implant dentistry which require dental surgeons providing implant treatment to be trained in diagnosis and treatment planning.

The course comprises of lectures, demonstrations, facilitating seminars and problem solving clinical sessions Educational Outcomes Upon completion of the course you will be able to:

• Understand the fundamental principles, theory and safe practice of implant dentistry

• Promote and advise prospective implant patients

• Identify and select suitable implant patients

• Confidently diagnose, treatment plan and assess risk .

Opportunity for further professional development

The implant year course offers access to supervised clinical training and is a foundation programme for the MClinDent in Implant Dentistry and the Diploma in Implant Dentistry, thereby giving the opportunity to further expand and develop your clinical skills. It meets all current training requirements and offers the opportunity for mentored clinical training.

This year course blends theory with clinical participation and comprises of ten teaching days, each of which is based on a specific theme that underpins the safe practice of implant dentistry. Attendance is required only one Friday of each month over the year. Through lectures, group work, discussions and hands-on experience, participants are introduced to the concept of osseointegration and are given a clinical overview of the surgical and restorative techniques.

• clinical assessment and conditions that contraindicate implant treatment

• oral anatomy, surgical techniques and pathological processes occurring in jaws relevant to implant dentistry

• physiology of bone healing, osseointegration and factors necessary for success, patient selection

• The healing processes, use of new technology such as Advanced Platelet Rich Fibrin (A-PRF) for implant surgery

• Oral radiology and Cone Beam computer imaging along with the ability to accurately interpret radiographs and 3D scans

• Restorative and laboratory techniques together with the very latest CADCAM and digital manufacturing applications

• Potential complications

• Long-term requirements for implant maintenance and oral care and the medico-legal implications and limitations of implant dentistry
